Therapy Services

At Chester Psychological Services, we offer a wide range of therapy services tailored to individual needs. Our goal is to provide comprehensive psychological support using evidence-based methods, combining various therapeutic techniques to meet the specific needs of our clients.

The Therapy Techniques We Offer

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is an evidence-based and widely used form of therapy that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviours.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a therapy that helps individuals process traumatic memories to reduce their emotional impact.

Schema Therapy

Schema Therapy is a longer-term, intensive therapy, used to help individuals change negative, lifelong patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaviour.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT focuses on reducing harmful behaviours and learning skills to tolerate distress, manage emotions and improve relationships and social interactions. These skills can be practiced on their own, but a full program of DBT involves a weekly skills group for 2.5 hours, and an individual therapy session in order to review how the skills are being used, and support the individual to stop any harmful coping techniques on which they had previously relied.

Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT)

CFT aims to help reduce distress and psychological difficulties, by increasing self-compassion and compassion to those around us.  CFT does this by helping people to engage with the difficulties they are facing in a kind, wise and helpful way.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT aims to help people create rich, full, and meaningful lives based on their personal values, whilst accepting the pain and suffering that we all face at times throughout our lives, enabling us to move forward rather than dwelling on the negative and feeling stuck.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness involves paying attention to the present moment with openness, curiosity, and acceptance of reality, without judgement. This evidence based practice can significantly reduce stress and is used within many other therapies, such as DBT, CFT and ACT.

Behavioural Family Therapy (BFT)

BFT is an evidence-based, psychoeducational approach for people whoo have a serious mental health condition and their family. It is a practical, skills based intervention that usually takes 10 to 14 sessions to deliver. It typically involves sharing information with the service user and their family about the service user’s mental health issues, experience and treatment. The family also complete work on recognising early signs of relapse and develop a clear staying well plan. BFT promotes positive communication, problem solving skills and stress management within the family. The needs of all family members are addressed, and each family member is encouraged to identify and work towards clear personal goals.

Dyadic Developmental Practice (DDP)

DDP was developed as a treatment for families with adopted or fostered children who had experienced neglect and abuse in their birth families and suffered from significant Developmental Trauma.

DDP is based on attachment theory, what we understand about developmental trauma, the neurobiology of trauma, caregiving, and child development. The therapy helps the children learn to trust.  It is family-based and involves both the child and their caregivers.
